Submitting News Articles

HuntingtonDaily.com has tried to make it easy for our readers to become contributors through a relatively simple process. By Following these instructions, it will make it easy for us to review and publish your content to get your information out to our readers. We will accept many different kinds of submissions for publishing. The following items will have the most likely chance of getting approved for publication:

  • Opinion Articles
  • Huntington Business Articles (must be informative and not ’sales pitchy’)
  • Non Profit Articles
  • Community Events Articles
  • Sporting Event Articles
  • Public/Private/Home School Articles
  • And much more!

Articles which may be harder to publish would be controversial articles or articles that make claims that we would need to verify before publication.  Send the articles, and if we can publish it, we will!  As a final word on published content, we do reserve the right to not publish any article for any reason or no reason at all.  We also reserve the right to remove or modify any published article at any time for any reason, or for no reason at all.  Further, content in any article submitted is the responsibility of the creator and we accept no responsibility to any errors, or inaccuracy in articles submitted.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING ARTICLES

#1 – Before submitting an article, users must register on the site by clicking on the Register link on the button right of most pages.  Once registered, or if your already registered, log in by clicking the Log In link on the bottom right and logging into the site.

#2- Once logged in, click on the Posts category and then click on Add New.

#3- From here, you can write an article in the user friendly online editor.  A basic knowledge( or willingness to figure things out) of text editing software is needed to performing any optional formatting functions.  Once you’ve completed your article click the “save draft” link in the top right of the screen.

Some things to remember:

  • User submitted articles must be submitted using your actual name.  You can put this information into the ’settings’ section.  Make sure your name is set to display as your actual name. 
  • Keep images reasonable.  The system will allow you to submit an image up to 2MB in size. That doesn’t mean it should be 2MB.  Preferably 100 to 200k is an acceptable image size.  Keeping file sizes in check makes it easier for us to publish your article and increases the chances to have your article published.
  • Make sure your article is written in third person.  Don’t say “We’ll be having a bake sale” say “The Huntington Group XYZ will be having a bake sale”.  Provide all relevant information, don’t assume people will know where your even will be held – tell them!
  • Proper spelling, good grammer, correct english, etc. will all help us publish your article.  An article which requires us to make a lot of changes before publishing may not get published, and we won’t necessarily take the time out to tell you why the article isn’t being published.

Once your article has been submitted, SEND US AN EMAIL regarding the submission and let us know that it is ready.  We receive an automated email every time an article is saved, but we don’t necessarily know you are finished.  Also, in the email, please include your contact information so we can get a hold of you if we have questions about your article or need to verify sources.
