Huntington County Community School Board Vice President Rick Brubaker concluded his second and final term as District 3 representative Monday evening.
After eight years of service to the community as a trustee on the Huntington County Community School Board, Vice President Rick Brubaker concluded his final term at Monday evening’s meeting.
Brubaker, who represented District 3, chose not to run for re-election in November, explaining it was a decision made by his whole family.
Board members presented Brubaker with a plaque for his services and hosted a cake and punch reception in his honor following the meeting.
“We want to recognize Mr. Brubaker … a member with us from July 2002 through … July 2010,” Shafer said, noting Brubaker served as board president and vice president during his two terms as District 3 representative. “I want to pass along my appreciation for his work … On behalf of the administration we want to thank you (Brubaker) for your wisdom and leadership.”
Brubaker said it was a privilege to serve the community and a pleasure to work with every board member.
“Every meeting we’ve started with a prayer and I truly believe God put a group of people together in Huntington County to further the education of our kids,” Brubaker said, explaining he has learned something from every School Board member he’s served with. “I would like to thank my wife who stood with me through eight years of craziness. I appreciate all of her help.”
Board Member Scott Hoffman said he has appreciated working with Brubaker for the past eight years.
“I’ve been here about the whole time with Rick. He’s been a friend and a good colleague,” Hoffman said. “I know how much you study each and every decision and I really appreciate your service to the community.”
School Board President Kevin Patrick thanked Brubaker for his many years of service.
“Being a School Board member for eight years you either have to have passion or you are crazy,” he said. “I appreciate your wisdom and the courage to stand up when you didn’t think something was right.”
Secretary Rex Baxter admitted he and Brubaker didn’t always see eye to eye.
“Rick and I haven’t always agreed, but we’ve remained friends,” he said. “I appreciate your service.”
Since no one filed to run for District 3 in the May primary, HCCSC advertised the open position and received five applications. The School Board will convene in a public session prior to the July 19 meeting to interview the candidates and will select and swear in the new District 3 board member at the July 19 meeting.
A date for the public session has not yet been decided.
