The Huntington TEA Party held their third and final debate Friday night for the upcoming primary election. Over 300 people came out to check out the local candidates running for some of the county offices.
The debate was limited to 10 local offices due to time. Pastor Jeff Carrol of The Awakening Church opened in prayer. Amy Richardson led in singing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. Jeff Berggren was the moderator for the event and kept things running smoothly.
As each office was introduced, the job description of that office was read and the salary was posted on the screen for everyone to see. Each candidate introduced themselves and explained their qualifications and why they are running for their particular office. Some offices had questions that were submitted by the public, the clerks office and sheriffs office receiving the most submitted questions.
The results of the straw poll are:
Assessor Candidates: Terri Boone 113, Don Schoeff 69, Joanie Stoffel 18
Auditor Candidates: Cindy Yeiter 135, Kathy Jullierat 60
County Council Dist. 2 Candidates: Kendall Mickley 131, Jaime Miller (could not attend) 54
County Council Dist. 3 Candidates: Joel Harris 160, Pam Updike (could not attend) 24
County Council Dist. 4 Candidates: Don Davenriner (could not attend) 87, Felicia Staley 80
Commissioner Candidates: Leon Hurlburt 101, Carl Zinsmeister 66, Jerry Helvie 29
Clerk Candidates: Kitty Keiffer 64, Fran Felts 43, Stacey Elzey-Bishoff 41, Gary Snyder 41
School Board Candidates: Kevin Patrick 96, Jon Moore 87
Sheriff Candidates: Tom Carney 115, Terry Stoffel 82
Surveyor Candidates: Marlin Doctor 110, Jay Poe 87
We would like to thank all of the candidates for participating and the citizens of Huntington for their support during these debates. We hope the debates have helped inform our Huntington citizens so that they can make wise choices on May 4th!
