I was appalled today when I opened my email and found a chunk of spam, from a company I (used to) do business with, for a “Patriot’s Day Sale” on US-themed customizable checks and checkbooks!
I’m not a stick-in-the-mud and I don’t mind folks displaying their patriotism in everyday ways. In fact I make my living in advertising and champion many creative ad gimmicks but frankly this one (and others I’m sure will pop-up before the day is out) crosses the line and I’m offended.
It is MUCH TOO SOON to turn our nation’s greatest national tragedy into a marketing gimmick! Patriot’s Day is NOT a cause for a SALE! It’s a time for reflection and concern for the thousands of innocent Americans lost in a great tragedy.
While, in time (sadly), it may become another “President’s Day” or “Memorial Day”–the stuff legend, 3-day weekends, bank holidays and SALES are made of–attempting to accomplish this metamorphosis of greed while same- and next-generation relatives of those killed are still in proper mourning is a travesty. Check your morals, ladies and gentlemen! What’s next? A Pearl Harbor Day Blowout Sale???

Well, how about this from our lovely mainstream media—-
Is it still too soon for jokes about Sept. 11?
