On Thursday the Huntington County 4-H Robotics police robot team members met with Huntington Police Department to kick off the police robot project. Back in early 2007 Huntington Police contacted Huntington County 4H Robotics about possibly building a robot for the police force shooting range. The robot would be built in a such a manner that would be remote controlled and carry a 30 lbs upper torso. The torso could be shifted in height and move with electro-mechanical actuators to simulate human like motion along with abrupt movements. Officer Dale OsBorn leads the shooting range along with his officers. “This proposal gives me goose bumps”, Officer Dale OsBorn was excited about the proposal and the concept drawings presented by one of the team leader students, Kayla Snabl. The team now seeks funding for the project who they have already contacted a local community sponsor in hopes of bringing this project to a reality. Initial concept 3D renders have been released by the team which show a six wheel drive remote controlled base with a poly carbonate surface skin and run flat tires. “Well I would hope none of our officers would ever shoot at the tires of the robot. They might just not be on the police force anymore.” joked Officer Dale OsBorn.
