OpEd – Ken Zuk on HCAAN Meeting @ Hier’s Park

I just love the smell of democracy in the evening.  There is nothing like it.  I counted more than 100 people at the HCAAN  meeting.  All of them were concerned, some were afraid but most were experiencing something that they never thought they would be forced to do -  fight city hall for their own property.  If the city government thought that nobody was paying attention, well, they were wrong.  I have seen a few of these fights in other places where I have lived.  My seasoned political senses tell me that if the good people of HCAAN keep the pressure up, they will win in a landslide and beat back the flames of the annexation wildfire.  The City Council and the Mayor better drop the flares that they used to start this thing because the winds have changed.

The same thing goes for this ” new income tax ” that the County is trying to have appear as a new deduction on every working persons paystub.  I am declaring Monday August 25 as ” No Annex- No Tax Day “.  The County Council’s meeting about the ” new income tax ” is at the Courthouse at 6 pm and the City Council’s meeting is at 7 pm just a block away, how convenient for all of us.  I have a feeling that parking downtown may be limited.
